Very Low-Calorie Diets

A low-calorie diet (VLCD) is a medically-supervised diet of 800 calories per day or less. It is for obese individuals with BMI >30 or BMI > 27 and comorbid conditions who must lose or wish to lose significant amounts of weight as rapidly as possible in a safe manner. A VLCD is generally safe for women who are approximately 40 pounds or more overweight and for men who are about 50 pounds or more overweight.
Scientifically designed and highly effective meal replacement products are used exclusively. Commercial formulas, usually liquid shakes, soups, or bars, are used which replace all your regular meals. These formulas are not the same as the meal replacements you can find at grocery stores or pharmacies, which are meant to replace one or two meals a day.

BENEFITS OF A VLCD: This may significantly help in benefiting medical conditions related to obesity, including diabetes, heart disease, high blood pressure, and high cholesterol. Seeing such rapid results and the benefits to health motivate a lot of people with obesity.
